When digestion is on point and you are getting the nutrients you need, your body has a pretty magical way of sorting itself out. I saw first hand how total health stems from the health of the gut. I had to take the time to figure out what worked best for me and give my gut a chance to heal. Healing my body with food was the only thing that worked for me. The medical community didn't seem to know what to do with me. Good nutrition and a holistic mindset got me better! I hit a point where I had to gain some respect for my body and figure out how the heck I was going to get myself better. I was later diagnosed with Celiac Disease & Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis - both autoimmune, both triggered by poor nutrition, stress & a lack of self-love. I had become severely underweight, clinically depressed, my hormones were completely out of whack and my adrenals were completely shot. I loaded up on Splenda and I drank diet soda galore.Īll of this added up to a downward spiral. Limited carbs… there’s not much left after that. I did always have a mind for nutrition but at the time I thought calories was all that mattered so I avoided fats AND I had as many cups of coffee as I could in a day. I ran myself into the ground, not because I was doing too much but because I wasn’t balancing it with good nutrition and lifestyle habits. When I was doing my undergrad, I commonly had 12 hour school days, while also working as a personal trainer, writing for the school paper, and still trying to keep up on the lastest issues of The Amazing Spiderman. I know because I’ve experienced it first hand. However, I also believe in taking care of your health, because if you don’t you won’t be able to get all those “to-do’s” done or enjoy all those little things in life. I do enjoy a ridiculous starbucks mocha-peppermint-pumpkin-java-lata-nana every once in while and yes, sometimes I watch Netflix for so long that it asks me if I’m still there. I have stresses and obligations, family and friends to keep up with, work deadlines to meet and dirty laundry piling up so high I figure its probably just easier to buy new clothes. I’m Meg! I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, helping boss babes with digestive & autoimmune disorders use nutrition & self-love to heal their guts & get back to kicking butts!
